Winter Skin Needs a Boost - Brighten and Exfoliate for a Glowing Complexion

winter-skincare.jpgAfter visiting the cold and frigid weather in Chicago for the holidays my skin, which is normally a combination of oily and dry skin - it was in bad shape from the freezing conditions. I was pealing is some areas and dry in others. My moisturizing lotion was not helping at all and I was in need of a good, but gentle exfoliation.

This got me thinking about how skin during the winter months needs some adjustment with the type of products you use. If you have combination skin like me you'd probably want to change from your moisturizing lotion to a cream based moisturizer for combination/normal skin. If you have oily skin you probably don't need a moisturizer, but during the winter months adding a lotion for oily skin will give you some protection from getting wind burn on your cheeks. Dry skin may get problematic during this time. From tightness to pealing dry skin can really feel the elements. If you have dry skin make sure you have a thick cream moisturizer and if you need an extra pick-me-up during the day carry a bottle of hydrating mist with you.

Another step worth adding in your winter skincare regimen is an exfoliant. SkinCeuticals has a great one if you want to save time. SkinCeuticals C + AHA is a one step exfoliating/antioxidant treatment with vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids. It brightens and protects your skin with 15% vitamin C for a healthy looking natural glow and it's a powerful antioxidant that fights against free radicals. The 10% concentration of alpha hydroxy acids help gently exfoliate your skin without any micro-beads that may end up scratching and drying out your skin during the winter. It smooths out rough and uneven skin by removing dead skin cells from the surface and will reveal newer looking skin from underneath. The ingredients that do this is the glycolic and lactic acids. Glycolic acid is derived from sugar and lactic acid comes from milk so they are gentle for your skin. The best side effect is younger looking skin with less wrinkles.
