Fake MAC Cosmetics Alert!

fake_maccosmetics.jpg

Attention, MAC shoppers, the compact powders, eye shadows, and lip glosses made by MAC Cosmetics that we have all come to love seem to be getting knocked-off by a mischievous group of people. According to PurseBuzz, several people over the past few months have accidentally bought, in particular, fake MAC eyeshadow.

The only way to separate the real from the fake is by the mirror and the sponge tip. The MAC version never comes with a mirror or sponge tip. So, be safe and only buy your MAC cosmetics from the retailers that are listed on www.maccosmetics.com

Sigh...I have bought 13 fake M.A.C. eyeshadows. But that said; I am a makeup artist and I have had and been using them for a couple of weeks. I must say, the quality of these fakes is pretty good. I have never used M.A.C. before (I bought these on ebay to try them), but I have used a myriad of other names and these indeed have demonstrated to be of better quality than many. I am especially happy with the colors. I have a shade of Kelly green that I have only seen elsewhere at M.A.C. (though not, at the moment, on their website) and a wonderful bright Turquoise that is vibrant without being gaudy. I'm sad that I might not be able to replace it.

I feel like the "company", whoever it really is, ought to market the stuff under a name of their own and quit being so dishonest. I'm sure they can find a way to market themselves as a more affordable alternative to M.A.C. without being so sneaky.

Don't get me wrong; DON'T BUY FAKES IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY!!! You don't know where they're made, by who, with what, etc....one of the principle reasons I wanted to try M.A.C. is because they have a reputation for high quality products AND they don't test on animals. Now I know nothing about what I'm using. But don't throw out what you've purchased if you're stuck with it. Use it. If you don't normally monitor the ingredients and/or origins of your cosmetics (which, sadly, most people don't) then why waste them?

Wow, I didn't even think that this would be out there. But I guess there are fake versions of everything, right?? :D

Hi all, i just receive bunch of Fake mac eyeshadows and let me tell you they seem good quality they are just fakinng the boxes , misprinting some littering if u look and inspect them right but what can i say eyeshadows are eyeshadows and they can last as long you wear good primer before eyeshowing your eyes and your good to go Mac is jut a name brand whom designers made it to make money ,,, and ohhh boy they are making lots of money for a just a name MAC. yeah the pigment must be alittle better. but the fakes ones are good too whom ever makes this fakes eyeshadows that was made overseas or in canadian. they are also good and the price eveybody can afford. and also all it takes is for sellers to be honest with their sells not wait for people to buy them then wait for the buyers to say or leave negative feedback on their profile. well is all i have to say, people just stry the fake mac..lol and palette's they are also good ., they are people on youtube that making makeup tutorials with fake eyeshadows and they seem to work good. and make up artist are using these also..!:0) greetings.!!

I cannot believe how naive some people are. Do you seriously believe that the fake cosmetics you are putting on your skin and around your eyes undergoes any proper health and safety and quatity testing. If I said you could get a cheap and good fake tan by rubbing dog excrement over your skin would you do this?
Fake cosmetics can contain high levels of heavy metals (such as lead) and can not only irritate the skin but encourage premature ageing as well as poisoning.
As far as someone buying fake cosmetics and applying them to someone else - this is called fraud and constitutes physical assault and I hope one of your clients sues you.

Chiara

I agree with Rick! I cannot believe that some of you think is OK,to buy and use counterfeit make up such as MAC!
MAC,invests a lot of money into product research, it uses ingredients that have been tested what guarantee you have with these fakes if for example you would develop an allergic reaction?!
On another note did you know that counterfeiters ill gotten gains contribute towards terrorism and some even employ children in productions of these fakes!Do YOU REALLY WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THIS?!

I agree, I bought some fake MAC in Thailand ealiar this year and I have used it a few times, but I can tell its fake (packaging/quality/price) and I am chucking it out. Who knows what they put in these fake products that cost much less!

katie
10/04/08

Fakes are good. Good price and excellent quality. Don't listn to Rick. I bet he has something to do with mac, giving all this massive lecture. We are basically paying £15 for a pigment where on Ebay i paid £7. It will cost MAC to make the pigments about 50 cent including packaging in China and they sell them at £15. What a rip off.

All the quality check rubish, is all a load of rubish. And that the fake products can age skin, What the hell is that. All cosmetic products age skin, whether we like it of not. Paying £15-£20 for an eyeshadow from MAC, will this not age my skin???? Help me out to understand, or am just naive Rick????

Anyway, I just think that RICK was getting a bit sciency with his lecture and it just made me mad. People can do whatever they like. If a half price product does it's job exactly like the original, then why not. What if I were to make a make up range in china and Name it 'Katie'. I pay $1 for it and then sell it on to you for £20, I make more then £19 profit out of your hard earned moeny, would you like it??? I thought so. :) WE ARE ALL PAYING FOR THEIR BRAND NAMES PEOPLE. Have a good day, I feel much better now.

chiara
10/10/08

Katie! What an ignorant person you are!I can only assume that you are one of the sellers on Ebay, who peddles these fakes as genuine hence your sermon about"fakes are good"!
Rick is right...

Buyers educate(especially on Ebay)
yourself before buying and before being carried away into buying a fake .This fake could
potentially damage your skin with untested ingredients. Yes, we all like a bargain however at what cost to our health? Buying a fake handbag might make you cry at the loss of money but buying a fake mascara that damages your sight... think about it.
Oh by the way Katie,Im NOT AFFILIATED WITH MAC so don't accuse me that I wrote all this to somehow gain brownie points.
Oh one major thing is that Mac ethos is NOT to test on ANIMALS,can the same be said about these fakes?!I rest my case!

I recently unknowingly purchased fake MAC makeup on ebay and am now trying to get my $$ back. I feel uneasy about using it, so will probably end up throwing it all out or sending it back to the seller. What a waste! I could've gone to a MAC retail location and bought exactly what I needed/wanted without all the extra colors for the same amount of money!

Hi! Actually I just made a trip to Asia not too long ago and it's not only Mac that's fake anymore!there are big websites in China sells many brands of fake cosmetic, anything you can name out and they have it in fake.A lot of Asian are very good at telling the difference in fakes.I bought Arden and many other bands thats all fake..I learned from my mistakes and can tell the difference now.Be very careful on where you buy cosmetics ... I was shocked on the counterfeits looks so similar to real.Hope we all be careful on this.

i'm a cheap person so i bought these products knowing that they ae fake. they work as good as the real ones. i just hate that ppl are making a profit of the fakes claiming that its real.

Chiara
02/01/09

Regardless wherever you agree with what I posted previously.Counterfeited makeup is full of ingredients that can potentially harm your skin ,eyes etc!Rayray you are saying that they work as good "but I disagree...my authentic MAC pigments, are very long lasting and look gorgeous on my eyes not too mention i feel safe as I have purchased them from either MAC counter or 1 seller on eBAY UK,who does sell only AUTHENTIC MAC!Rayray,if you were to for example suffer some nasty swelling on your eyelids or worse who would you sue??Who would you complain to?Ermmm the counterfeiters DO NOT care! They are interested in your money!Nothing else!Ah I forgot to mention that in China they counterfeit babies milk...some has died ,and medicine too..now do you still think that's acceptable...
I have nothing else to add

Hey Guys,
Just to let yall know that the MAC products from Brush111.com are not fake, the products are made in the same facility as the ones sold in MAC stores its just that a particular worker and her crew are selling without them knowing. It's the exact same thing. I bought some so I could test them, I also became friendly with the girl from the site and she told me exactly what they do.

I think that I just received some fake Nars artist palettes from ebay... I guess it was my fault for not researching the product well enough. And let me tell you... these fakes look good! They are hard to spot. (I am still not sure if it is a fake or just a misprinted label.) What would you all suggest I do? How can I prevent this from happening to another ebay buyer?

Thanks!

jazlyn...freakin relax! how can a brush break you out? All you people are doin is giving this website and their company exposure....and im sure they love it. I mean I look at it like this...people buy generic food and it takes money away from the real brands like kraft, prego, etc. People buy knockoff purses from NY canal street and so forth....coach loses money. People you are paying for the name, that it it! Thats it...get over it. Either u buy it and try it r shove it. (Rick,Charia, etc) Obviously its cheaper so of course your not gonna get exactly what the real brands are BUT if its close enough to it and you wake up the next morning after your 1st usage with both eyes attached to ur face....keep doing what you do! Duh....hahaha

Just purchased brushes from brush111, they arrived today. I got two sets, the set of 8 and the set of 32. The set of 8 is 100% as good as any mac product, brushes are even numbered. The set of 32 looks a bit cheaper the logo is not perfect and brushes are not numbered. I would recommend these brushes to anyone especially the smaller sets. The REAL mac are really ripping people off on their brush prices, just like most cosmetic companies, it costs them very little to make and the mark up they put on their products is shocking. I have also heard that this is a factory that makes the real mac, although I don't know if this is 100% true. I will definately be buying more from this site as I found the service good, the postage prompt, and the price right. We are in a recession and the sooner the cosmetic companies start to be REAL about their pricing then we'll start purchasing from them again....

Looks like some people on this site don't know what they are talking about. Some say these are obviously fakes, and some say they are not. It's nice that you can just accuse people of selling counterfeit merch. and ruining their reputation and business. If it is such a big deal to you not to purchase fake products, then DON'T PURCHASE THEM. Don't you have better things to do than worry about product made in China? We buy them everyday. Think about it.

M.A.C Freak - your comments are completely false. Brush111 brushes are 100% counterfeit! Just look at them. If you are concerned about fake products - just buy from an authorized retailer. It's really that simple. Ebay is not an authorized retailer.

MAC Attack!
04/04/09

For the record,

Brushes111 is a complete fake. Yes, it's true. The pigments, the brushes, the cases, everything. I have never, nor will I ever purchase MAC products from anywhere but genuine MAC retailers. (See maccosmetics.com for list of reputable sellers.) But I DO know how to spot a counterfeit product, and believe me I have seen my share of them. I am a young girl with good eyes, and I have done some research that I felt that curious people should know:

1.) I recommend NEVER buying "MAC" cosmetics online, *especially* if the price seems too good to be true. I'm not posting how to spot a fake, I am posting to help you avoid buying fakes. :)

2.) Even though MAC cosmetics are pricey, they are of GREAT quality, and they do not harm your skin, nor are they tested on animals. However, fake MAC products, pigments AND brushes are cheaply made. As a buyer you have no idea where on earth the knockoff came from, or what's inside it. This could pose a *serious* health hazard for any unsuspecting buyer. Many of the knockoff products are made of cheap inexpensive material, nowhere near the quality of what you would pay for real MAC.

3.) Rick is correct. Since the origins of these "underground" products are unknown, there is no way to tell what kind of ingredients are included in them. I can assure you that no REPUTABLE cosmetic manufacturer would have to assemble products under the guise of a different company if they were legit. [ Of the products tested, the worst offenders were those containing the cancer-causing ingredients coal tar, alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids, and those containing the hormone-disrupting ingredient, phthalate. ] -www.naturalnews.com

That lead and acid is disgusting. Would you want to put that into your body? Let that be a lesson to those who bought and USED the fake products. Don't do this to yourself. And even if by a slim chance you can prove they aren't dangerous, the products are still shoddy. But you CAN'T prove they aren't bad, so just say no to fakes!

4.) If you DO buy online, buy from the only true source. (maccosmetics.com) DO NOT be fooled like scam sites such as Brushes111 or any others like that. NO, they do not sell discounted makeup because of their location. NO, they do not have actual large MAC brush and pigment sets, and NO THERE IS NO "LADY" who works for MAC and is secretly selling MAC products on an online store!!! (i.e. Brushes111) NO NO NO!

NOTE: I do not, nor have I ever worked for any cosmetic company. I'm only a girl! :) Lastly though, I would like to caution all potential MAC buyers and addicts (like me) to BE CAREFUL! Don't waste your money and endanger your health! Play it smart and buy from the source! ...eBay is NOT a source. Haha.

And there you have it! I hope this helped! Feel free to comment and tell me how I did for my first post, or share a MAC story. Thank you! :)

For the record,
Phoenix.

I had purchased MAC brushes for years and thought they were wonderful. I recently was forced to buy a new 168 Brush (lets just say that thanks to my kitty cat the brush met a unsanitary end in the toilet) and brought it home, washed it (and I am very careful about washing my brushes people!), and almost 1/4 of the hair fell out! I was super pissed, went back to MAC, and they flat out refused to give me a refund for the jank product I received! That was it...

I logged onto Brush111.com at the recommendation of a friend and decided to give their 8 brush set a try...

I have no clue why everyone is so up in arms about the fact they are fake....THEY ARE WONDERFUL! And the real crime here isn't counterfeiting brushes, it is charging people $40 a brush! They are fake. I am not disputing that. But I figured that it was worth a shot and I am BEYOND happy. I suggest that anyone on here who is all "Fakes are bad" and "It is gross" needs to ask themselves if spending $40 on a makeup brush that is certified and special is really worth it? If you got the money, then fine. But the rest of us still want to look beautiful without having to live off of cans of soup and macoroni and cheese because we're broke ass poor. They're fake. But they're great. No complaints here and they are a hellova lot better than I expected. They are soft, don't smell, they havn't shed at all...they're definitly way worth the price! If you're not uptight about a product name, I suggest buying one and giving it a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hi People,

I sell fake MAC makeup for over 4 years now. AND NOT ON EBAY AND I ALSO TELL MY CUSTOMERS IT`S FAKE. I now a couple people that work for mac and they even tell me that the quality is not much different than the real stuff. REMEMBER 70% of the price you pay for mac is only for the name, nothing else than good marketing and promotions. If i have to pick between a brush set that cost over 300$ in the shop or the same set not produced by MAC but cost only 100$, it a easy choice. I have over 300 customers in the states in Canada and they are more than happy with the fake stuff. I now it is a big problem on Ebay and i don`t think it is right to sell fake as real. But everybody knows that 90% of the stuff on Ebay is fake. If you want real MAC and spend crazy amounts of money on it go to a MAC shop ,don`t even look to save a couple buks is not worth the risk. Because the fakes i sell are 100% the same as the real ones. You will need a expert to tell that they are fake. This is not to promote anything or to make more customers, but if you want to now of you bought fake stuff send me a email at montrea1@aol.com with good photo`s of the products you both. AGAIN IF YOU BUY ANYTHING OFF EBAY you will take u big risk, always ask for a receipt and where there supplier is located. EVERYTHING FROM MAC IS MADE IN CANADA. I hope this was helpful

Robert

Mac is a big company, and they have a great market out there for their cosmetics, no doubt. But i assure you they do not have their own factory producing brushes. This is a fact. All make up brushes are produced in the one factory in 'CHINA' people....get over it.... then they are sent out to their respective company's and 'STAMPED' Individually by that company LOGO...

MAC is not made in Canada (sorry Robert), it is actually made in CHINA and packaged in Canada. Most products these days are made in China due to the cheaper labor.Do you think MAC would rather pay $10-$15 per hour or $2 per hour to a worker? Think about it?

Where do you people think Louis Vuitton, Chanel,Balenciaga is made???

'CHINA' - Macau actually.. This is where all these 'AUTHENTIC' $5000 handbags are made..for any of you thinking about buying an Original, you best bet is to buy a plane ticket to China and go to Macau and to the factory (you only get a 2 day visa/pass to shop) then buy away at 70% off RRP.Same product, same quality..you are just not paying for the dozen or so middlemen it takes, to get it to the store.

By the time any product is shipped from China to wherever, costs will be increased. There is gov tax, stamp duty, import tax,GST,overheads and wages (for retail), not to mention marketing as well.. so this is why you are paying $30 or so for a $5 eyeshadow and $5000 for a $200 handbag. All these chemicals, leathers, dyes, hairs (for brushes) are all the same. There is no special breed of cow or goat that Chanel uses when making a bag and there is no exclusive colored dye or chemical that MAC uses. They use pretty much the same as any other company does.Maybe Mac actually does not test on animals (here's hoping) but what are they testing on then? Products are never sold without thoroughly been tested for human use or consumption (if it applies)..

If people are happy using so called "fake" MAC products than so be it, everyone stop getting your knickers in a knot and get over it. And if any of you work for MAC , maybe you can bring this up at your next meeting and discuss lowering the ridiculous prices you are charging for cosmetics that really are not that much better than any others out there.

Cheers..

p.s. Yes I have been to Macau and yes I have bought from the factory. The $5000 some fool paid for their Louis Vuitton handbag, I got a whole set of Louis Vuitton luggage.Authentic 100%..

Have a good day..

Why on earth are you selling fake MAC and having people be happy with their fakes? You know MAC is a big company with high quality cosmetics and I'm sure that selling fakes is illegal. Also, how dare you tell them that it's fake and you lure them into buying so much fake MAC and they don't realize it until they see the packaging. That's not fair to them and you should be ashamed of selling fake MAC to your customers!

Has anyone actually taken their fake MAC to a chemist to have it tested for LEAD? If so, what was the outcome? I recently purchased some for myself and my daughters (so much cheaper & fairly decent quality)...but after reading comments here, I'm beginning to worry.

I am only interested in FACTUAL information. Numbers, data, etc. No haters, please.

I bought 2 fake eye shadows without known. I've always bought them from MAC Retailers, but as I'm in Mexico and no MAC near my home city, I bought them from a friend of mine that is Hairdresser at very expensive price. Now, I'm so mad, and I'm hoping that my friend would be surprise about this as well, as she is selling them in their hair saloon to family and friends ( yea I'm optimistics that she is not in freaky business)

I don't agree with anonymous, the quality of the fake ones is not even close to the originals, it fades right away, and the color looks funny, i tought it was my skin color but thanks for this valuable post....

hi . im new in america, and im from china. i saw the website days ago, and i just tried to find whether the things there are real, and final went to this website. i was reading every comment, then i just thought of i can search on the china ebay, which we call it taobao. if there are lots of the same things there, then that means, this website is just selling really cheap things, it is not even true their products are from the same factory which produce MAC.
see all friends here. the following website tell us the result, and see how cheap the price can be(the prices show are RMB which is 7RMB=1USD), see almost every shops are selling the same stuffs. they are just really cheap things.
we are just wasting our time here arguing whether they are good fake things.

you all need to chill out, for goodness sake. yes its annoying to accidently buy rip-offs, but if people are happy with the performance of the product, then LET THEM BE! its their own choice, and who actually knows with 100% certainty that what MAC say about their products (no animal testing, no bad chemicals, bla bla bla) is actually true? there are and have been dozens of companies who made the same claims and then it turns out it wasn't true. so get over it. if people choose to use fakes because they are cheaper and they don't wanna pay for a name, then LET THEM and stop havin a go at them. they dont have a go at you for spending ridiculous amounts of money on products, do they?

I have purchased some MAC and Bobbi Brown LE items from Ebay and all the times were fine except for this time! I bought a large pack from magenta-shores (Kimberly) residing in Australia. She claims in her listing that her items are all authentic and even educates us on how to tell that MAC items are fake. Unfortunately, those are obvious fake and are now outdated, suppliers nowadays are getting much much better. I'm usually trusting and especially when sellers insist that they are authentic in their listing and don't come cheap, I have a good feeling that they are authentic. I was wrong! I could never imagine that the FAKES are sooooo close to the authentic ones that I took them for real when I first opened the parcel and happily left her a positive token. She is a nice lady and perhaps has also been taken for a ride by her US supplier. I don't know but she has been selling such large packs for sometime after doing some research. Did everyone think that they are authentic and resell them?

So how do I find out that they are FAKE? I became a little suspicious when I opened up some blushers and eye shadows and noticed that the black labels written with pale yellow font. I have none of my blushers or eye shadows from MAC counters have labels with writings in pale yellow colour. Everything else is almost identical, except some white writings on the box are a little bolder. Below website shows me that the pale yellow fonts are FAKE items, authentic ones come with silver fonts/writing. And everything else seem to match up with the fake ones shown in this website. What's more can I say? Almost perfect FAKE!

http://www.specktra.net/blogs/counterfeit-mac-packaging-comparison#comment-3341

You could only tell the difference upon receipt of FAKE items and do a side by side comparison with the authentic ones. Pictures of Fake items by themselves cannot tell much because they are soooo close. They have name stickers and barcode, everything! I really can't believe what I see!

I've filed a dispute with Paypal, I hope to get a refund soon. If the above website couldn't prove that they are fake, I'll have to go down to MAC counter and hopefully they could help me. It'll be embarrasing but it's a lot of money to me.

Ok I agree with Kati cuz we dnt kno how cheap labor is in other countries people are so ignorant corporations pay so little to produce a product and go out and sell it for triple the price they paid just watch that movie the corporation and see for your self and see the things people do just to feed their families and educate your self about what corporations do

I have studied about marketing strategies and hospitality and tourism, and believe me almost 85% the sh**t we put on our face tend to be made from the same components, besides you can cure cancer with a sugar pill. Besides Mac makes billions of dollars yearly and we are heading for a depression soooo there is no way, I am spending a heck load of money on my face when I can do it for less. Why don’t you people research things such as water fluoridation in the United States, making people dumber by the minute and f-ing their teeth. i think that fake products are brilliant i used them myself and they work the same as mac products. if mac was to lwer their price there would be no need to buy fakes. if i buy 6 pigment from mac thats a £100 where i can buy "fake" mac pigments 60 for £50. and every single colour i received is brilliant and stays on all day!! if people want to buy fake let them its recession we all need to cut back on where we pay our money!!

I work for MAC and have had so many people coming in with their eyeshadows that they got at MAC parties(which MAC dont do by the way) or ebay and their eyes become inflamed and swollen. they show us which shadow did it and only then to find out its a fake.

there was an article in vouge where a woman used a fake and her face began to swell,it started spreading to her neck and she would have died if she hadnt got to hospital in time. now thats the extreme and not everyone will have a reaction to fakes...but im sure that woman didnt think that would happen to her.

if you want cheap make up their are so many cheap brands that are tested, and dont contain things like paint thinner in their shadows!! there are so many batches of fake Mac being produced that from one seller you might be ok, but you might react badly to another...you just cant tell

I read everyone comments and still have mixed feelings about the whole thing. First off I have never purchased fake MAC or any other fake brand. I've just always chosen to stay away even though I've been more tempted to buy some recently. The questions that keep circulating in my head however are the following:

How can I find out for sure what the difference is in both products? (to test the differences) Who knows...they may actually be the same? Should I take a sample of each to a chemist myself and find out??

It seems to me like WAY too much trouble for a company in china to go through the trouble of buying real MAC products every season (or every time they get new items) and work to duplicate the same exact product even if they are using cheaper ingredients. not only that but they have to go to the trouble to copy all the graphics and writing on the product itself and its packaging? All that and who knows what else they have to do just so they can sell the "fake" product at $2??? Why on EARTH would anyone do that??

Isn't it possible that MAC products are in fact made in china and packaged in canada?? that would answer the question as to why the packaging is different and the product is the same.

It seems much more logical that a company would use left over from an already existing product or simply make more of it and package it when they also already have the packaging available to them at an inexpensive price?

The stories from people having reactions to certain makeup could be that they are simply that...allergic.

I don't know. I thing the only way to know for sure if if someone took the time and money to find out the real difference in each product. Other than that I think its mainly up to the people themselves.

One last thought....I wonder if everyone concerned about buying fake brand makeup is also against buying products from companies like Coastal Scents or others like them?

hmm.....I dunno

I sadly bought a bundle of the Color Rich lip/eye liners that I thought were real as I did not get a very big discount at purchase. Well, once I was told they were fakes I had them tested at Labtech as I am very health conscious - my Hong Kong ripoffs are of a better quality than the real MACs - hahaha. Just the MAC name on the pencils that put me off but I am glad that I did buy them and I use them regularly.

First of all I want to make it clear – manufacturing and distributing fake products is illegal. Most of articles above mist that main factor.
Now about less important things like how much top brands care about customers, how dangerous could be fake cosmetics and other nonsense mentioned above.
How much companies care about customers? They don’t care at all and especially top brands. All those statements about how important are customers, how they improving services etc. is part of marketing. Business is about money not consumers. I couldn’t find any evidence supporting their claims that they care about customers. So I checked what Amanda said. I bought from MAC website VIVA GLAM lipstick and when it arrived I contacted MAC what I am allergic and can’t use it. I got long and polite email. In short it was – you bought it, you got it, don’t bother us again with it, goodbye.
About poison in fakes. Common people show some respect to yourself – think. Who on earth wants to ruin their business by putting poison in products. Who makes fakes? Factories, which makes generic brands, to increase profit by using top brand’s names. Usually it is 20-50% of overall factory production. So why they should put poison in products marked (illegally) by MAC, Benefit, Lancome…and not in other products? Oh about lead. To get ingredients containing lead in these days you have to splash a lot of money (only big companies can afford that). All those stories are created by big companies as a part of actions against fakes. Do a bit digging on the web. MAC and all other big guns are using same ingredients and technologies as generic brands. And they don’t spend money on research. THEIR PRODUCTS ARE SAME AS GENERIC BRANDS. Percentage of ingredients can vary- some slightly better, some slightly worse. If you will dig the web properly you will find the proof. I did. So why they are so expensive? To make a huge profit. They spend loads of money on adverts and marketing to convince people to buy their products for very high price. Simple.
How to avoid fake? For those who cares about what they HAVE, I recommend to buy genuine products. You can find them ONLY on official websites or in approved retailer's stores( lists provided on official websites). You can’t buy those things anywhere else. To fight counterfeiters top brand don’t do wholesales. So nobody can sell genuine products cheaper then official price. On ebay 99.9% products are fake( 0.01% for those unwanted gifts like my lipstick).
For those who cares about their look and money I recommend browse the web( including ebay) and get the best deals.
And ,Chiara, can you provide links for your claims “that counterfeiters ill gotten gains contribute towards terrorism and some even employ children in productions of these fakes” as I couldn’t find anything about such things. Just don’t tell that you got it from MAC...........

Why are you guys even using MAC products???

MAC is just as harmful to your skin as the fakes that you purchased...maybe you should look up what EXACTLY is in your "wonderful" MAC products that you love...horse pee, whale fat, fish scales, crushed insects, tiny pieces of glass, etc

Maybe you should think about using products that don't contain crap in them...

If you want to know what I use, it's "Arbonne" and if you want to know more about the products, email me at s.teixeira@live.ca

I would just like to add....to all the people who are saying the fakes are just as good quality as the authentic M.A.C. products, i strongly disagree. I remember the first time i tried M.A.C. eyeshadow of my sister's(which was def "real" from M.A.C.) i remember thinking to myself, OMG this is what the 'good stuff' is like!! I went to Macy's and bought some from the M.A.C. department right away. Its so smooth and rich in quality and looks so Sultry!! Anyway, not too long ago i went out on a limb and purchased some off EBay==Big mistake!! I could tell the difference that it wasnt my lover MAC right away after use)-: Like anything high-end, you are paying for the name...but with that name comes excellent Quality and longevity of the product!! Do not buy MAC unless from actual M.A.C. store or M.A.C. website or a high-end 'well known' dept store such as Macy's, Dillard's, Lord & Taylor etc.

Hi, I work for MAC COSMETICS, not as a makeup artist but in the marketing department and fist of all I would like to clear up the fact that MAC is not made in China. Get your facts straight.

Second, it is against the LAW to sell counterfeit items whether it's makeup, dvds, clothing etc. Louis Vuitton has taken action against serious sellers who sell their fakes and MAC is in the process of doing the same. I am telling you right now if you do not want serious repercussions dont be stupid and post on here that you sell fake MAC.

If you want cheap makeup go to your local drugstore and buy the cheaper products available. You cant come on here and say you hate MAC and then buy the fake MAC.

Hmmmmm??? Right or wrong that is the question..Good or bad?? Heaven or Hell?? Come on people.. it's Mac not the end of the world. Someone please tell me if anyone has died from using this?? There are far more concerning problems..Everyone is trying to make a dollar... We are all trying to make a dollar...and SAVE a dollar. That is life. The REAL PROBLEM IS NOT THE MAKE UP...It's GREED...AND MONEY it is the root of all evil. If you have money you think you have a sense of entitlement.. If you don't have money you are trying to get it. . Let's see. . Do you have family?? Do you have friends?? What about a pet?? Those are the things that matter.. If you look in the mirror and this rip off make up makes you feel better and you look damn good with it on...GOOD FOR YOU.. If you Wear real MAC make up and it completes your day!!! AWESOME keep up the good work!! We are all grown human beings.. We all make our own decisions.. Who's to say the motives behind any of these people writing on this board.. We can only trust ourselves and our gut instincts. No one lives forever.. And if i die from using cheap MAC well then all be damned.. But that is my choice. Choices are our own. Stay strong and believe what is in your own heart. There is really no right or wrong answer.. It is what it is. LIFE. That's what make us so great!!! We are all different.. MUCH LOVE..

Well, I hate to tell you all this, but if you think that just because you purchase from a department store that you are safe, you are absolutely wrong. I have been a Para-medical Aesthetician for over 12 years and I research ingredients in products. I won't mention any names, but there are several department store "Big Names" that put very toxic ingredients in their products. The skin care is by far the worst. They claim to be dermatologist tested and yadda yadda and the stuff is absolute crap. I teach seminars on ingredients and skin care and will be coming out with an e-book soon, because I am sick and tired of people getting ripped-off. You are not safe from anyone. You must take responsibility for you self and learn your ingredients. At least be concerned with the top 6 ingredients. At least with the make-up the risk is minimal because it is laying on top of moisturizer, primer etc... if you did you makeup right. So even if you eyeshadow contained some metals, that are not being absorbed into the skin! What you should be concerned about it all the crap they put in skin care...lotions etc... I could say so much more, but I will save it for another time. Happy safe shooping to you all.

Hi everyone,

I purchased a Hello Kitty MAC eyeshadow (a limited edition line) from eBay, where the seller had 100% feedback and noody had said any of their products were fake. I trusted them and bought one in purple.

The next morning I woke up my eyes were pink/red, a bit swollen and it was because of this 'fake' product. The people who said fakes can't be trusted ARE RIGHT. God knows what stuff I put on my eyelids yesterday! I'm worried now- it's not normal to have an allergic reaction so strongly, when you know you are not allergic to cosmetics and never have been!

Do not buy fakes. Go to a MAC store and buy the real thing. Pricey but you're not endangering your health.

Actually, I have asked a Mac employee and she said that the eyeshadow compacts that have a mirror and a brush underneath were "anniversary" special editions and they dont carry them anymore.

Thus, the ones that some people are selling are most likely bought at a really cheap price like other makeup brands MAC possibly sold them back to employees for a cheaper price to get rid of them when the special edition line was over.

hi everyone, I BOUGHT MAC ONLY at MAC stores, i have a COMPLETE SET OF AUTHENTIC BRUSHES that was ALMOST double priced compared to mac usa websites, i live in spain, MAC spain and MAC u.k. products prices are double..example mac brush 190 in mac usa website it says 32 usd.. here in spain, mac sells it for 39 euro !! 53 us dollars !!! so in mac usa 32 and in mac spain 52 !! WOW !! and also , after buying the 190 brush , I noticed that the handles doesn´t have any stamp japan or france to it..so I returned to MAC pro store and asked , the cashier said that ALL OF HER MAC BRUSHES DOESN´T HAVE any country mark on the handles ! so I WAS SHOCKED AS I BOUGHT ALL OF MY 38 PCS MAC BRUSHES THERE in MAC pro fuencarral but mine has france or japan stamped to the handles !!! so i asked the lady again if i can see their brushes, yes 190 doesn´t have any stamp on the handle , and I even complained about the quality of the glue between the nickel holding the bristle , the glue is not neat !! the mac staff just replied you can easily remove the messy glue thats it, (but hey i am paying a very high 52 dollar for mac 190 it must be in BEST quality !! ) then she checked her brushes inside her mac brush belt , she found out that yes MAC brushes do have france or japan at the end of the handle !!! I am really really sad to learn that a mac employees NOT ONLY HER INFACT I GO TO MAC in el corte ingles and asked the other mac ladies there since it was lunch time, less customers so I found them the 5 mac staff talking I asked them about my brush that i bought that has NO STAMP japan or france on the handle , and THEY ARE ALL CLUELESS THAT MAC HAS STAMP , THEY ALL SAID THAT THEIR BRUSHES DOESNT HAVE STAMP JAPAN, USA or france to it !!! they told me not to worry because rest assured that I bought an authentic mac brushes since I bought those to them , MAC store itself !! SO NOW WHAT CAN YOU SAY...
any comments are all welcome..I am a mac collector and a fanatic..addict what more..

Like many before me I went on eBay for the first time and bought a 120 "MAC" eyeshadow palatte. The phrase "If it seems to good to be true, than it probably is" came to mind before I clicked the Buy Now button, but I bought it anyway. The next day I started doing research and found that MAC doesn't even make a palatte with 120 colors and I knew it was a waste of $70.00 + shipping. I opened it today and I wanted to kick myself in the butt. The size of the eyeshadows was so small and the colors were barely visable on skin. It has MAC on the front of the case and after examining it, it looks like they take the actual MAC case that holds 15 MAC eyeshadows and remove the inside and replace it with 2 removeable eyeshadow palattes. I'm not entirely familiar with MAC, but I will no longer shop eBay for it. I am in the process of trying to get a full refund. Thanks to eBays Buyer Protection.

I think it is up to you wether you want to take the risk of using fake MAC products, however, I would recommend just to be on the safe side to take your fake MAC to the lab to get tested, because one mistake is all it takes sometimes. I would do research to see if anyone else has gotten sick as well. I'm not on one side or the other, I just believe in educating yourself on the products you use. Alot of the high end brand name cosmetics don't always put the healiest stuff in it. Look how bad most of the ingredients are in the food we eat! It's the same thing, you have to become an educated consumer and trust your gut. It is illegal to buy and sell fake MAC, so if you choose to do so again be careful and use common sense.

This is a question for the people who work for MAC Cosmetics. Why don't you lower your prices? We are in a recession & paying that much for cosmetics is absoulty appaling! Excuse my spelling I am tired lol but seriously people would not buy fake MAC if your produts weren't so outragously priced! All people are paying for is your brand name, now who is the crook again?

TJ

I've been toying with the idea of buying MAC from eBay but I think I will leave it alone. The fakery is too complicated and I don't feel like being bothered. It's not the end of the world, true, but I have a problem with liars. Period. Also, counterfeiting is illegal. Plain and simple. If you sell me a clearly labeled MAC dupe of reasonable quality for an affordable price, no biggie. If you say it's MAC and it is not, you're lying. Saying something is "just like MAC" and saying it is MAC are two different things.

It's no secret that most of what we buy is just different combinations of the same relatively inexpensive ingredients. Luxury brands do perform better in some cases and if something is not right, you have the recourse of being able to go back to a well-known corporate entity. That having been said, much of the price differential is about the prestige of a big name. Most of the fakes are probably fine in terms of safety, the issue is just that you don't know what you're getting and have no recourse in the cases where it is not safe. Still some people will take the chance and that's up to them.

MAC probably won't lower their prices anytime soon. I wouldn't hold my breath. Part of the perception of prestige is that everyone is not supposed to find it accessible. If you can't afford MAC or don't want to pay their prices, don't buy their stuff. I can't afford Louis Vuitton handbags for example. I don't buy fake LV, I just stick to the best quality authentic brands I can afford or go with a cute no-name. You are better off finding MAC color dupes in a less expensive brand with a good reputation. Wet n' Wild, NYX, Flirt! or whatever.

Well. . .I have just painstakingly read through all of the comments left here. . .and here is my two cents. . .:-)

I have been gradually getting more and more detailed and precision oriented with regards to makeup application and I needed more brushes to take my skills up to the next level. I went to ebay for the first time in my life because I was frustrated at how much it costs to get a good, comprehensive set of cosmetic brushes. Being a woman whose ultimate quest is to get a good deal...I wanted to see what my chances would be of finding a deal that I couldnt pass up. I came across brush111.com. I saw that they had a 38 piece "MAC" brush set that they were selling for 99.99.The set included all the the face, eye and lip brushes found in the MAC product line. The only other deal that I had come across that I was considering was the 15 piece brush set being sold by Sigma (http://www.sigmamakeup.com/products/7018.html ) and the price for them was 149.99 and they promoted that their brushes were direct COMPARISONS with the MAC line. They even went so far as to number their brushes in a similiar fashion.

So what we currently have now are 2 examples of potential fakes/knockoffs. Okay. . .so Im still weighing my options. . .Should I sink 100 dollars and get 38 brushes that say that they are MAC brushes, but are more than most likely knock offs OR should I sink 150.00 on a brand that comes right out and says that they are knocking off but that they are cheaper than the real thing??? Bearing in mind that currently the brushes that I am using are just plain old 'no-name' brushes that I got from the drugstore; but they are certainly getting the job done.

Well. . .I went to the trouble of going to MACCosmetics.com to see how much it would cost me to buy all of the 38 brushes being offered at brush11.com, from an authentic site. Well. . .the grand total including the soft leather pouch for the make-up came out to be 1102.50. Thats one thousand one hundred and two dollars and fifty cents!!! HOW MUCH SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?????????? The day that I go from using no name brushes to spending over 1000 dollars on brushes just because they say MAC will be the very same day that pigs sprout wings and fly.

All of the people presenting arguments on ethics. . .HOW ETHICAL IS IT FOR A COMPANY TO MARK UP A PRODUCT TO SUCH ASTRONOMICAL DEGREES? AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE STEALING!!! A BRUSH IS A BRUSH. . .NO NAME, NAME BRAND, FAKE. . .IM PRETTY SURE THAT ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, THEY ALL GET THE JOB DONE and if they dont. . .move on. But their is no way that I can justify spending over 1000.00 on brushes. AFTERALL, I NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE SAYING. . .HER MAKE UP LOOKS GREAT. . .SHE MUST USE MAC BRUSHES.

In addition. . .many makeup artists use eyeshadows and cosmetic brands outside of MAC, NARS, or Bobby Brown. You have brands like NYX, Coastal, BH cosmetics and even drug store lines like Maybelline, Covergirl. . .etc. . .Some artists even use grease paint. . .So really. . .What difference does it make????? If it gets the job done than it gets the job done and if you can do it and still have money in your pocket at the end of the day. . .Than its worth it. No matter how in/expensive a brand is. . .If you dont know how to apply it than it worthless anyway.

I bought 5 mac eyeshadows which turned out to be fake. When I applied them my eyes got really sore and my head ached until I took the shadow off. I will never buy anything "mac" from ebay or anywhere else like that again. I got a real fright from these products that I purchased (which have since been thrown out!) I have no idea what is involved in the making of them but I know I will never purchase anything fake again. I also would like to add that I would be very upset if a makeup artist used fake mac eyeshadow on me. Nobody should buy fake in my opinion. I know that mac is expensive but there are more expensive products on the market to be honest. I always get my foundation at the macpro shop and I will be getting the rest of my eyeshadows there from now on. its just not worth the risk!

No way! copies are SO good you can only tell having the original and fake side by side, and only by swatching. The colour looks similar but if you take a picture or look the swatch in a mirror, you can tell the difference. I have just received a refund from a ebay seller with lots of positive feedback, and the product was FAKE!!! I had to go to the Mac counter and do the swatching to compare

Ladies, save yourself time, there are reputable sellers of MAC on ebay, but you won't save yourself much, if you want a quality product like MAC, you will have to pay. I should know, I have over 70 shadows, and 30 pigments, all from the counter, retail. Then I thought I would save money, ebay looked so cheap! What a waste. I was swindled, got my ebay account, personal email hacked, got involved in some kind of international bank theft ring, all from buying counterfeit MAC from REAL criminals. There are reputable sellers, ladies trying to make a living, but they get their supplies directly from overstock from the stores themselves, you must have the real thing to compare to when you get them. Also, you must pay through pay pal, and have ALL messages go through your ebay message inbox, don't let them go direct to your email, in fact, I would hide your personal email. This is a common trick. If in doubt, bring it to a MAC counter and compare. Never put anything counterfeit on your faces. If it is fake, try to work it out with the seller, and get everything documented. If they say they will give you your money back if you send back the goods, make sure you get a tracking number and keep the receipt! If they don't give your money back, open a case against them on ebay and ebay is obligated to give you your money back plus what you paid in original shipping. This counterfeit crap is not good for anyone, and if it happens to you, TURN THEM IN! Every last one of them. The reason they get away with it is people agree to give a good rating if they give the money back. That is crap. Get your money back and turn them in. I am a MAC loyalist forever. Counterfeiting is no good, and who knows what is in this stuff. Whoever uses it, good luck with your health. MAC will get these people, and I hope they all burn for selling this crap and stealing people's money.
Stay beautiful ladies! When in doubt, stick to the counter, or reputable sellers, or sellers who can tell you where they get their product!

wow did not know. I work for hotsexyfit in harlem ny and this guy pass a sale rep for mac. I bought two eye shadows but when I tried them I thought they went on like the .99 cents makeup so i decided to google if anyone had the same problem and found this. Lesson learn on this one.
The way to know is they are just not the same. The fake dont even last 3o min
Never again will I be taken and no I will buy them on ebay since i don't know which is which. This remind me of some people who duplicate our jeans in china. What a shame

Come on! You can't fool an expert. My little cousins got fooled with the imitation MAC, and let me tell you.....when they told me how much they were getting it for I knew it was too good to be true! I inspected the product very carefully and compared it with my MAC and found out it was fake. The eyeshadow broke very easily and didn't stay on my eyelids.

I am appalled at the very first comment left by a so called makeup artist.
How could you of all people use counterfeit cosmetics which are potentially dangerous to skin.
The fact that you are putting this on other people's skin and not just your own is an absolute disgrace.
Have you no idea???????
I gather by your post that are ignorant of the fact that cosmetics in the western world are quality controlled for dangerous chemicals.
Shame on you for your ignorance and cluelessness.

I've read some of the comments and cannot believe how thick some people are - it's embarrassing for you.
Go ahead and wear dangerous chinese chemicals on your skin.
No-one cares about people they don't know.

I personally have a bunch of fake mac and real, and to be honest I have some real stuff that bothers my skin, I think that it is a person choice. All makeup is bad for your skin period! lol All the people bashing the fake stuff is silly if you don't like it don't use it there is no need to hate on the rest of us that do... Oh and by the way I am Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of Califorina. Customs is going to stop anything that isn't safe from coming over here end of story so all this lead talk is redick. On top of that if you were having skin issue from using it you would know right away, if that was really the case there would be all kinds of news stores about people going blind from using fake stuff so lets keep the facts straight folks! lol

Their are some very intelligent posters on here and some very dumb ones. The intelligent posters have made a logical and thoughtful point pertaining to the chemicals used in both real MAC and fake MAC. The unintelligent posters only have one point to make which is 'don't buy fake MAC'. How about don't buy MAC at all? Real MAC also has chemicals which I AM ALLERGIC TO. I purchased a real MAC foundation a few years ago at a REAL MAC counter and guess what? I had a severe break out. Open your eyes people and stop being so superfical. Real MAC is made in China and packaged in Canada hence the reason why its hard to identify the fakes from the real.

I use organic makeup like Sante and Lavera. Real MAC is just as poisenous as the fake. Also fake MAC brushes are a better deal than the real, 24 fake MAC brushes with the same quality as the real is 70% cheaper. SMH

I have used fake stuff and real stuff, I have used expensive products like NARS, MAC, CLINIQUE, and LANCOME, and the cheap stuff at stores like Cover Girl, RIMMEL, and MAX Factor.

Depending on the shade from ALL of names, I have had a reaction. Does this mean that the fake is worse than the real? Or vice versa? NO! What it means is that I have a negative chemical reaction to the chemicals used in the products, for me its blushes. So it didn't make a difference at all whether it was real or fake, I still got a reaction.

Look at the ingredients (if you can, hell most NARS and MAC do not list ALL the ingredients or the percentage they use) and see what the similarities are to the things you are having a reaction to, then get stuff that doesn't have it.

Or if you are really really concerned, get organic products, do a ton of research and get those, you are less likely to have a reaction to that stuff.

I'm not a make-up artist, nor do I work for any of these companies, and I'm not a MAC lover, I'm just a Make-up lover in general. The make-up artists that are knowingly using fake products, that's pretty bad, do you know all the ingredients in the product? Do you know it's ok to use? And yes all make-up is unhealthy for you, some is just a lot worse, and more often than not knockoffs or fakes will be worse than the real deal. *shrug*

It's really not hard to buy and re-sell fake brand name cosmetics. Look at this company for example. http://www.beebuyer.com/c/147-Makeup-Supply
They sell wholesale bulk cosmetics for almost nothing.

Both sides of this argument have very good points.. I believe it all comes down to personal choice.. i do however think if you choose to use fake (mac or other) cosmetics, it should be for personal use and that makeup artists shouldn't use it on clients. If something did cause a reaction, how bad would it sound when you have to explain that its fake and you bought it from ebay or a dodgy overseas seller?

I am not Chinese. However, I lived there for 5 months and learned a lot about the culture. Not to mention I'm an international business major and had my internship with a Chinese company while I was there. I just have to hit a few points:
*Yea, it's not right that we get lied to. Yea, it's illegal. However, at the end of the day, not all fakes are poison. Sorry MAC. At the end of the day, legit MAC products are overpriced. At the end of the day, MAC doesn't really care about your face. Your wallet is what matters most.
*Can I just say Chinese people actually take WAY better care of their skin than Americans? Overall, their culture as a whole is a lot more concerned about health than we are.
*Did you know that numerous American companies also "water down" the quality of their products overseas? In essence, they are cheating and lying to people from other countries and hiding behind their brand. Just saying.
*Some of you (SOME) are so concerned about your skin yet you never wear sunblock, 75% of your diet consists of hydrogenated oils and processed foods, you cake your face with makeup constantly, you touch your face with dirty hands, you don't wash your hands before putting in your contacts, you pop your zits for fun, you drink more soda than water, and you even sleep in your makeup. No bad intent here, I'm just saying. I mean, I love me some diet Pepsi.
*Side note: did anyone notice the"MAC marketing employee" can't even spell correctly?!?! Weird.
*I had a friend who interned for a Chinese company that helps make high end purses/bags(such as Chanel, etc.) This is just one example of consumer rip-off.
*Hello globalization! Things that costs less than a nickle to make are sold here for 20 times as much.
*I travel all the time and buy all kinds of foreign make-up brands. It's fun...and my skin is fine.
* This whole thread is made up of spoiled girls who feel like they need a $100 brush! Why are we like that? A part of me feels super pathetic about all the time I've spent reading about this and commenting.
*Guess who MAC really belongs to? Estee Lauder. Just google the complaints against them http://www.consumeraffairs.com/cosmetics/estee_lauder.htm

Ok. Peace. Do what makes you happy!

If they were more flexible and cheap no one could make copies and I told them I will buy fakes they don't f care what I said.

hi everyone. i was wondering if anyone who knows more about spotting a fake than i do could tell me if either of these are fake on ebay? I am not willing to take the risk of untested products with the fake eyeshadows, so if you could please respond if you know about spotting a fake!

I was trying to tell if this seller's was fake, but she is from the USA and has 100% positive feedback..so i wasn't too sure.

Look folks, if you are happy with your fakes, so be it!
Who cares it's your money. One thing I will tell you any time you buy anything other than from the actual store MAC or Nordstrom (they sell authentic MAC) there's a 95% chance it's not real. Think about it, who would buy an eyeshadow for $19 and resell it to you for $10 including shipping? wher'e the profit for them? Forget the whole "they got it from a MAC wholesale or Factory, MAC don't do that. Now it's different if it'a A limited edition item which goes for $27 and the bid is up for double the money and up, because they ARE making a profit. There are so many other nice good quality products out there too, check out NYX, Sugarpill, etc.

Hi guys,

I know this trend has already been done before but,
I am a beauty journalist writing a story on counterfeit cosmetics in Ireland. I am looking to interview a few people who have

a - bought a fake cosmetic
b - liked it and would buy again
c- disliked it and is wary to buy again
d - had a bad reaction - allergic etc
e - was sold something horrible - as in something that smelt bad or was the wrong color.
f - attended a MAC/Benefit party or hosted one
g - sell fake MAC knowingly/unknowingly

If you would be willing to give me some of your time and answer a few questions that would be great.

hi I am an oz come across this forum by accidenr. I personally have purchased and used MAC, Estee lauder, lorac, clinique and other branded items you named...from their official counter not to show off but to see if any of them would suit my skin type since I could afford any branded item. however my skin is very sensitive and I thought before purchasing expensive or authentic branded cosmetic would be good for my skin but after trial and error I decided to get skin allergy tested and comes up that I cant take any cosmetic with parabean and perfume in it.
So now everytime purchase a cosmetic I always tell the cosmetic consultant.. that I can not use any cosmetic that contains parabean and perfume. coz it will irritated my skin doesn’t matter how good the product seems like.

So WAKE UP people.. it's not the authenticity or designer name that would protect your skin but what sort of ingredient of the cosmetic used.

I even use cheap product from Asia country since it doesn’t contains parabean and parfume.. my skin feels good though I only paid $2.75 for it my skin safe compare to all the authentic designer brand that I purchased in the past for hundreds of dollars.

It doesn’t mean I refuse to use expensive stuff I use them as long as it’s not contains ingredient that I am allergic too. so nearly 99.9% all cosmetic including all authentic designer ones contains parabean and parfume which harming your skin NOT because they made in china.. HAHAHAHAHAHA..how dull it is to read some of your comments..
obviously people who claimed only use authentic brand not only lack of knowledge but JUST to follow the crowd to feel good about themselves so they wont feel so cheap. Hehehehehe...it’s all about self image.. not about legality..

again.. as other said 95% economic system hold in china.. everything made in china and other asian country.. I personally grew up in Indonesia and nearby my hometown were giant manufactures of Adidas, Nike, Puma and textile companies that produced van hausen and all branded quality clothing.. guess what .. all finishing product with super quality were shipped to USA and Europe to be labeled and are still going until now before being exported to different countries in the world.. leaving their own people with lower quality items at the cheaper price. yes USA AND EUROPE OR OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY ONLY BUY THE LICENSE BUT ALL PRODUCT MADE IN ASIA (IT’S ALL POLITIC OTHERWISE HOW WOULD THE ECONOMIC BE KEPT ALIVE) I know for the fact since the CEO of the company was my mum’s friend… I know the truth is always hurt.. even my Indonesian friend refused to buy adidas in a Sydney dept store when she found out it was made in Indonesia. She just wanted to believe it made in USA.. poor thing…is all about self image. At the end of the day.. people wouldn’t care any way what brand you use.. true friend would value you as you are not what you wear or use..

it's funny how people who think they know so much about make-up and ingredients and how the chinese people make their stuff call the other people stupid or w.e (in so many words anyways)

EVERYTHING you see on tv, read on the net, magazine, newspaper etc. They're all subjective unless you come to a professional yourself or you've seen the results YOURSELF (provided the 'professionals' used is REALLY a professional) then you can't just think that it is true. Just because fox news or cbc says this and that or some person working at the mac store for $12 an hour says this and that it's not ALWAYS necessarily true.

Do your own research and formulate your own opinion. Just because someone told you that this ingredient would blind you and kill you doesn't mean they have the right information, remember the whole 'dihydrogen oxide fiasco?' someone made a completely legit looking website claiming that dihydrogen oxide is killing people and that it's harmful blah blah... and people who only have half a brain took whatever they saw on the net and started freaking out. The WORST part is that they went to their FRIENDS OR OTHER PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT THIS IS A F-A-C-T when in reality they don't even know what the heck they're talking about.

Yes, dihydrogen oxide has killed alot of people... by drowning in it.

DIFFERENT people have different body chemistry... that's why DIFFERENT people have DIFFERENT outcomes when it comes to make up and what not. People have good reactions and bad reactions when it comes to expensive AND cheap stuff.

A $100 make-up can work wonders on one person, and create a really horrible results on another and the same thing happens with a $10 item.

News is alot like MAC make-up (don't get me wrong... I love MAC to death) news that happened in China would come from a 'source' and then a reporter looking for his/her big break would send it to their boss who would add their opinions on how to make the news SELL AND APPEAL TO THE MASSES and by the time you watch the news on the tv and you've read it in the paper, SOMETIMES there are so much ADDED information or it's exagerated and twisted to the point that they're reporting a leak in a gas tank... and it's now a GLOBAL CATASTROPHE THAT HAS KILLED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE!!!

They're not all that bad... but don't always believe what you hear or see.

test the product on your hand first before putting it on your face... wait a couple of days and see if you have any reactions to it... that could save you a whole lot of trouble! Use your discretion when buying stuff online... we're all adults here, be smart about your money and your online purchases!

and if you argue that you're not an adult yet... then what the heck are you doing putting make-up on your face?

Daniel

You wouldn't drink the water in the country where these cosmetics are made, but you will apply their unknown, untested, unregulated chemicals to your skin daily. Gotcha. Childrens' toys from these countries have been found to contain lead. But you think cosmetics companies won't do that to you. Gotcha. You must be the same people who defend tanning despite knowing it causes melanoma. Sorry if I'm getting too "sciency" for you, but that means it will cause premature aging and a horrible death. You wouldn't eat food from a restaurant that was not overseen by your local health dept; why would you use unregulated cosmetics from a company that is, by definition, a criminal enterprise?

I've no stake in any cosmetics company. My ex-gf bought some fake MAC cosmetics in Malaysia, and I've been researching them, trying to convince her not to use them. But have it. Use lead paint on your face and cook yourself in a microwave oven for all I care.

MACMAKEUPWHOLE.COM

I recently bought from the first but idk if they are reliable. I cant afford mac or there brushes. drugstore eyeshadows dont work for me. I took my chances. HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY BOUGHT FROM THESE WEBSITES??? How was the quality? idk if I'll be using the mascara cause im iffy about it. PLEASE RESPOND!!!

wow the stupidity...
12/16/10

OKAY, FIRST OFF, the reason not to use fake MAC is because you don't know what's in it, it's not regulated, you don't know how if it's even gone through testing or if it's a high enough grade of a substance to go on skin at all. you can always make something look like something else if you want to. they can make it look neat in a little container and like perfect on top but it's really just crap. It's cheap for a reason and there's no real company standing behind it for a reason. It's like buying car insurance from a company that wont tell you who they are. Well some of you are actually stupid enough to be okay with that.

If you don't want to pay for MAC, (I'm poor so I don't have money for MAC) then buy cheaper brands. Hell, buy dollar store makeup if you want. Just don't buy the fakes that wont even put their own name on it. It's not a hand bag, it's a beauty care item that goes on your facial skin, eyes, and mouth. Don't make excuses, and DO NOT put it on anyone else because that is dangerous. There is a reason the people making that crap aren't putting their name on it. If it were quality they'd sell it under a name.

With no company backing a product you have no one to fall back on when you are in the hospital from heavy metal poisoning, etc.

I've been selling Mac Cosmetics wholesale for the past 2 years and I've made more money, actually enough to pay for my 2 years at my University than any other product. I've yet to hear any complaints from anyone. I've heard a lot of my buyers telling me that most people don't mind buying the fake Mac at all. It's all about pricing. Right now times are tough, who want's to buy a $14-16 blush or $25 foundation that probably cost the company $2 to make. My sales just keep going up due to the bad economy, I will probably keep selling even during and after I finish school. $2000 - $4000 a month ain't a bad income for a stay at home dad, It lets me spend time with my family and my little one while making good cash.

I have bought fake mac on accident. I should have realized, but I think I was just in denial because i wanted it so badly. I bought it off a couple different people on ebay, most of which were from china, but a few here in the US. I also own a few real mac eyeshadows, and i have to admit that i can't tell the difference. the fakes have great color pay off and great staying power, just like the real ones. though the potential side-effects definetely scare me, i think people just need to be smart about what they use and how they use it. test it on your hand first. if not, use one at a time on the eye so if you do have a reaction, you know which one it was to. i love makeup. it is my hobby and my passion. i would love to own the whole MAC line, but unfortunately i have a child who needs diapers and shelter. i know how the people who don't mind the fakes feel, they want something nice and pretty, but don't want to pay the outrageous prices. i don't feel bad for MAC. even with the rip-offs they make ridiculous amounts of money. why should we care? they don't care about us. perhaps they should stop selling their empty containers.
anway, i understand why people would be wary to purchase fakes, cause one should always be careful with what they use on their skin, but if they don't cause you any problems, then thats all that matters. at least to me.

its funny how everyone is so concerned about the copy/replica mac when it is all made with the original ingredients. going around calling the copys fakes....(if it was fake it would not be a real product in front of you it is a copy of the original not a fake. some people are ignorant and nothing is made in the usa anymore. its all made in china or overseas because it is cost efficient. Not even the authentic mac is made in the usa people. get a grip and get over yourselves! find something else to complain about. every one will react differently to any product be it authentic or copy. Oh and by the way did you ever think to ask if it was authentic before you purchased it or did you just buy it cause the box said mac on the front. who cares about copy/authentic its all made in the same place, with the same chemicals. mac knows this and they are full of S*** if they think otherwise.

i got myself fake mac before just to satisfy my curiousity. the seller said it was just like the original mac. boohoo!!! its so different with the original ones.the blush was powdery, the concealer was too oily, the lipstick broke after i used it once. SO DONT BUY FAKE! EVER!
if you're thinking on buying fake mac,why dont u buy from your local drugstores? it has better quality than fake ones, plus you are sure of the ingredients used.

I live chatted with a representative to ask questions and found out that they were located and shipped from hong kong. Now immediately my freak flagged waved but at the same time i thought hell all this stuff damn near comes from china, hong kong ,etc. For all we know some of that so-called fake mac could be made by the same manufacturer and theyre just making a side profit...but then doesnt that mean its not actually FAKE??

I don't understand what or why people are up in a hype about fake products. Not all of us have the money to spend on name brand things like other people. Some of us are single moms and students who have other important things to spend higher amounts of money on. I am a single mom and my son requires a lot of things but every once in a while I want to get something for me. Do I want to buy 1 single makeup brush for 50 bucks or do I want to get 24 or 32 for that price..I think I'll take the latter. I don't know about the makeup because I haven't purchased any yet and I'm not saying I wont. But I absolutely love my fake MAC brushes. In no way am I associated with people who sell them am I mad that they are no. There is a recession going on and everyone is trying to cut down their spending as much as possible do I agree with them using MACS name no..but think if they used a different name and sold them people wouldn't be tripping. If you bought it under a different name you would think that the product has been tested and everything else to be produced but in all honesty we don't know. If it was sold under a different name you wouldn't have any problem buying it. You're just mad because you thought you were buying a NAME... I have real MAC brushes and FAKE MAC brushes and honestly I can't tell a difference. There may be some differences in appearance but performance wise they are perfect. Don't rag on someone else because you don't agree with them buying fakes or selling fakes. If you don't like it them continue to buy your REALS and leave us others to buy our fakes. Like others have said It costs about 50 cents to produce 1 brush in China but by the time it gets here it goes up to 25-50 and sometimes over $200 for one single brush... What would you rather pay 50 cents or $50 I raise my hand for 50 cents. Either way we all have our opinions. For people that don't want to pay super expensive makeup I recently just came across www.bhcosmetics.com and received my first order yesterday and I must say the pigment in these shadows are AMAZING also if you want really really cheap stuff with good quality check out www.eyeslipsface.com their stuff starts at $1 and I'm not gonna lie I just bought a pair of fake Christian Louiboutin's for $97 from www.ioffer.com and people can't even tell the difference I know they're fake but no one else does. Oh and I got a Dolce and Gabbana bag..fake of course...in no way am I affiliated with these sites. I am just a single mom who LOVES a good bargain like everyone else. Everyone has their price they are willing to pay for things..Would I rather pay $97 for a name or $2,000 Again I raise my hand for the cheaper one...

Like most industries, cosmetic companies resist regulation by government agencies like the FDA, and have lobbied against this throughout the years. The FDA does not have to approve or review the cosmetics, or what goes in them before they are sold to the consumers. The FDA only regulates against the colors that can be used in the cosmetics and hair dyes. The cosmetic companies do not have to report any injuries from the products; they also only have voluntary recalls on products...Google around....this was just a blib from Wiki...what's real and what's fake? it's mostly a status thing after-all...who really knows what goes into what, where??? unless you work in the factory here or in China or where ever...uh, you're going by what's slapped on the label or advertisement....hype...

Ok first of all I just got duped into buying a fake Mac product. Second of all the person I bought it from on eBay actually got duped from her Mac counter at Macy's where she originally bought the product. Anyway I researched the item even called the Mac company and found out the product is fake and made by some cheap Chinese company. Please do your research before you buy products. If you don't know I have a number you can call that is Mac company and they can tell you if it's fake or not.
Also Mac did confirm brushes from the site brush111.com are fake and can be harmful. I wouldn't recommend using them but it's your choice and skin. Just be careful with what you buy. I hope this is helpful to people who want legit products.

I bought a MAC hello Kitty lipstick, I do use all MAC products and was quite disappointed when I saw that it was fake, however the fake is NO different to the real MAC, infact It lasts longer, and i gave one to my friend who was a make-up artist to see if she saw a difference, and she saw non what soever. I paid £20 for 20 lipsticks, and in MAC that would of cost me a bomb, I do not plan to sell these on as they are fake and could get me into trouble!

Ok here's the real deal.

The product cost for a MAC eye shadow is less than 0.50. It retails for $15. You pay for the brand and the hundreds of millions the company spent building a brand you can trust.

The product cost of the fake MAC eye shadow is also less than 0.50. The quality is the same. There are few suppliers of the ingredients that go into making eye shadows and they are all reputable. It costs minimally more to make the best eye shadow in the world vs the worst so there is no incentive not to make the best product in the world.

The big question mark and the reason why I will never buy these fakes is the questionable quality control. The Chinese people who are making these fakes are not "mischievious" as someone wrote, they are crooks.

If they are making this stuff under a bamboo shed, do you think they will care about washing their hands after using the washroom? No reputable manufacturer will make fake products. They will buy every popular shade of every popular brand, copy it as best as they could and build their own brand and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

These crooks however steal the blood, sweat and tears of the people who built MAC. I knew the person who started MAC, what hs vision was and what his failures were before he got it right and built a brand the whole world trusts.

IF YOU BUY THESE FAKES YOU ARE SUPPORTING THESE CROOKS.

If you cannot afford MAC then go out and buy a genuine, less expensive brand. At the very least, you will be wearing something made by a reputable manufacturer.

Personally, I don't absolutely care either way. I'm not going to be bullied one way or another by either cheap/poor people who'll go through hell for a deal, the people who can afford luxuries like a 20 dollar lipstick and therefor only the best is acceptable to use, or the hippies in between who moan and complain about the poor rich corporation behind MAC that you're stealing from by not buying the real thing.

That being said, I do agree that you should be wary of anything fake, not only because it could be a hazard to your health, but because it was likely created in a sweatshop and that's what you're *really* supporting. I could give a crap about MAC and big corporations, I'd rather focus on supporting people who deserve a living wage.

When all is said and done people will do what they're already going to do, bullying them into doing what you want them to do is absolutely childish and ridiculous.

I have been reading the comments on this page, after stumbling on a fake mac website called maccosmeticsonline.net. I don't know what alerted me wether it was the cheap price or the actual web design, but they sell those products as real MAC. I was really disappointed... And that's illegal for a reason. I do agree that cosmetic companies rip us off as well but that's unacceptable considering we don't know what's in those products.
It's strange that we are so brand conscious we desire something that has a label on it even if it's fake. It would be better and safer to stick to reasonable brands like bourgeois, maybeline or Rimmel. MAC has build a reputation for itself because of the quality of their products, yes they are expensive but you might buy one lipstick a year and use it, and enjoy it rather than having ten fakes, buy one good products. It makes you feel really good wearing something you love.
Buying fakes what you really buy is the label, buy a real MAC and you are buying something really special, or don't buy MAC and buy what makes you happy...
Just we deserve better than fakes!

All I have to say is no matter if its real or fake.... IT COST NOTHING TO MAKE!! Dont believe everything you here, for all we know more than likely MAC is made in china. Or the stuff that goes in MAC may have come from china. We all know everything is cheaper then the gov. actually leads us to believe. I dont know why you guys get off sayin "I dont know what in it; It might damage skin; etc." I mean, when you buy cosmetics thats not a BRAND NAME where do you think that come from.. Actually some of those things work better than $$$ onces if you ask me. Everything else have a MADE IN CHINA label thats in the US. I wouldnt be suprised. Unless you are there from the start of the making process..... YOU DONT KNOW ISH. Just like in FL one year they CUT down all our citrus tree because "THEY HAD SOME DESEASE" and gave everyone a $50 coupon to buy a new tree (which by the way take years to grow.) And honestly it wasnt anything wrong with the trees only just california citrus company wasnt making any money because just about every house in florida had a citrus tree. Point being there is no money going to the company, no taxes being paid so they concocted that story. So I dont belive there is any harm in using cheaper makeup. Just a fear put out there for us to spend HUGE $$$ and PENNY products.. ENOUGH SAID :)

First off, we don't even know what ingredients are in the authentic MAC and most people don't know that MOST cosmetics have very harmful ingredients.

If everyone is so concern on what you put on your face, than you should have all organic or 100% cleaning products in your home. Do you guys really think that the government has made makeup a priority for what you put in it? No. Make up has the least regulation out their. Now I do have to agree that if the seller is saying that their MAC is 100% original and it is not, that is fraud. But if the seller is saying that is a knock off and is being honest from the beginning than what is wrong with that. I myself can afford to buy MAC but its to over priced, I rather give business to someone who is just trying to make ends meet and not help big organizations get richer. I just think we should worry about abuse, poverty, the amount of suicides and why all this is happening.

I am a makeup artist, and for all of you crazy kids wondering why fakes are getting such a bad wrap, there are good reasons. fakes are not quality controlled, and what ingredients are listed on the box are not neccessarily all that is in the product. Lead is a commonly used, and highly toxic filler that is incredibly bad for you, if you want the colour variety, without the cost, use other brands. Many brands stock good forumlations and colours for lots of different products, just watch youtube MUA's who review drugstore products. These products are all available for the same price as counterfeit MAC, so i don't see what the problem is. Its not like anyone looks at your face and can tell what brand of makeup you've used, or would be stupid enough to judge you for how much you spend on cosmetics. As well, you have no certainty of fake products not being tested on animals, which is a guarantee that only the genuine mac products can give you, And all of you bitching about price rises and the recession? Maybe if people stopped buying these fakes and creating such a hostile retail environment, prices wouldn't be raised in the first place.

I bought makeup from a lady who claimed to be selling real Mac makeup, after using the lipstick and eyeshadow I broke out in hives all over my face. Thank goodness I had allergy meds laying around! I than compared my newly bought MAC makeup with my MAC bought from the store and could clearly see all the differences that I had not seen while buying with this lady. I dont usally buy makeup so I would never be able to tell if I had not taken the time to compare. I emailed her to return she replied and offered to let me return and now she is not replying when I asked where to send it back to. Is there anything I can legally do about this fraud and intense allergic reaction to the fake MAC? Thanks

At Anonymous, Wrong. Companies want to stop the fakes to actually monopolize the industry. Have you ever heard of the price fixing they did and got sued for? And they did lose the case by the way. I've broken out with real Nars by the way.
