Tap vs. Purified: The Water War

How much have you spent on a bottle of water? I've seen it range anywhere between .55 cents and $4.00 a bottle. Personally, I only take bottled water if it's free, but that could be just me. Readers Digest did an article about which type of water is better and it came to an interesting conclusion: give tap water another shot. Not only did Readers Digest find that 25% of this so called "fresh spring water"-in-a-bottle come from municipal supplies, but also that between 1990 and 2007 there were over 100 cases that water companies had to pull water from the shelves because of contamination (which they don't have to say publicly).
How often do you hear about your public water supply being contaminated? If you're worried you can buy a filter for your faucet and you've got purified water right in your own home. It's cheaper than constantly having to buy bottles (if you need a bottle, you can buy one for about $5 just about anywhere), and this time you really do know where it's coming from. You can also ask for a yearly report from your local water authority.
